Changing utility tariffs: what Ukrainians can expect

Despite the challenging economic situation, no increase in utility tariffs for the population is planned shortly. This was announced by Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, during the broadcast.

The expert noted that the main reason for suspending the tariff increase is the political context, since elections are scheduled in Ukraine next year. The authorities are not ready to take risks with increasing prices for the population during such a sensitive period.

“I am convinced that this will not happen, because the elections are approaching. For politicians, this is deadly dangerous, so there are no economic and political grounds for increasing tariffs,” commented Omelchenko.

Tariff prospects

Although the situation with tariffs remains stable in the short term, Omelchenko believes that in the long term, tariff increases may still occur. This is due to the need to equalize prices for all categories of consumers.

“In the future, I predict that commercial tariffs may decrease, while for the population, a slight increase is possible, which will ensure similarity of prices for all consumer groups,” the expert added.

It was previously reported that Ukrainians may be left without money for food due to changes in utility tariffs, as well as the fact that consumers are overpaying for these services. Information on the cancellation of debts for utility services and the necessary documents for this also became a topic of discussion.
