Changes in social benefits for people with disabilities and new conditions for providing assistance

In Ukraine, significant changes have taken place in the system of social support for people with disabilities. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Previously, social assistance administrators performed their functions through social protection bodies, but now these powers have been transferred to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU). Now the PFU is the only body that deals with the registration, assignment, and payment of assistance to people with disabilities, as well as other social payments.

Despite this, the mechanism for receiving assistance for citizens has not become more complicated. Those who are already entitled to receive help do not have to submit new applications or confirm their status again. All previously made decisions remain valid.

How to apply for assistance

For those who apply for the first time, several convenient ways to apply are available:

• Through the Pension Fund’s electronic services portal.
• At any PFU service center.
• At the Centers for Providing Administrative Services.
• At local self-government bodies.

All processes are gradually moving to a digital format, and information between different departments is transferred automatically, without additional papers and certificates.

The Ministry of Health, as before, is responsible for medical aspects. Doctors are responsible for determining the need to undergo an assessment of functional status and referring for an examination, which is then completed by a decision of the commission on establishing disability status.

The results of the assessment are automatically sent to the system of the Ministry of Social Policy, from where they are transferred to the Pension Fund. This allows for a prompt start of payments without unnecessary applications.

We remind you that earlier in Ukraine, a new state aid will appear, which will amount to 24,425 UAH per month. It was also reported about additional types of benefits upon the birth of a child, which parents can count on.
