Price Decline Trend: Which Products Will Become More Affordable?

Ukraine has seen a significant decline in vegetable prices. In June, prices fell by 8%, which was the most significant decline among all products during this period.

Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada’s agrarian committee, noted that the trend of price declines continues.

According to him, an essential role in price declines is played by small and medium-sized farms, especially from the south of the country and Transcarpathia, which actively supply vegetables, berries, and fruits to local markets and small stores.

“Since May, products from small producers have begun to appear in markets and stores, which has become an important factor in stabilizing prices,” Solomchuk said.

The MP also reported that a bill has already been approved within the framework of the agrarian committee, which is designed to strengthen the position of small and medium-sized producers in retail chains.

The document provides for:

• allocation of 10% of retail space in supermarkets for products from local producers;
• setting payment terms for goods, taking into account their characteristics;
• simplifying access to farmers’ products to retail.

The author of the bill believes that this will help reduce food prices by increasing supply and shortening supply chains.
