Kyiv court considers case of organizers of marriage schemes to avoid mobilization

A trial has begun in Kyiv against two women from the Kyiv region, suspected of facilitating illegal departure from the country. The Desnyanskyi district prosecutor’s office reported this.

The investigation revealed that the defendants offered men who were conscripted to the military to enter into a fictitious marriage with a disabled woman, which allowed them to obtain permission to leave during martial law.

The women advertised this scheme through ads on Facebook. The cost of the service was $3,800, of which $800 was received by the woman who agreed to the marriage. After the formal registration of the marriage, the “man” undertook to pay her a monthly fee of 10,000 hryvnias.

In addition, the defendants offered an alternative service – fictitious registration of disability without marriage, which also made it possible to travel abroad based on medical indications.

Law enforcement officers detained the women after one of the sham marriages was concluded and documents legitimizing the departure were prepared.

The case was referred to court under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment for illegal smuggling of persons across the border committed by a group of persons.
