Kyiv lacks 600 million to support the families of fallen heroes

Kyiv City Council deputy Andriy Vitrenko drew attention to the city’s severe financial problems that affect social payments to the families of fallen heroes, and openly criticized the Department of Social Policy for its shortcomings.

In his speech, Vitrenko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science and Chairman of the Budget Commission of the Kyiv City Council, touched on the critical topic of budget problems and social programs in the capital. He stated that while Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko is demonstrating the transfer of drones, the previous head of the Department of Social and Veterans Policy is in custody, suspected of embezzling 75 million hryvnias. Meanwhile, the new head of this department notes the lack of finances to support the families of fallen defenders.

Vitrenko also reported that Kyiv’s budget of 100 billion hryvnias does not allow for providing the necessary resources to support the families of the fallen and implement critical social initiatives. He accused the Department of Social Policy of failing to develop a new comprehensive program to help veterans, despite the presence of a request from the community and the requirements of the Kyiv City Council Regulations. Instead, according to him, the department is only continuing past programs, which is unacceptable.

“Failure to participate in meetings is not a political position, but a disrespect for the community,” he emphasized in conclusion. The deputy also expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their constructive work and assured that the team would continue working for the good of the city, despite the existing difficulties.

It should be noted that Klitschko did not respond to the petition, which collected more than 6 thousand signatures and demanded punishment of officials for organizing celebrations on the Day of Mourning, which caused outrage among residents.
