Sophia Loren’s son’s wedding: a ceremony in a monastery and the absence of a mother
The son of the famous Italian actress Sophia Loren, 56-year-old Carlo Ponti Jr., married 36-year-old fitness trainer from Georgia Mariam Sharmanashvili. The ceremony took place on July 26 at the historic Samtavro Monastery, located in Mtskheta.
Carlo Ponti Jr., who is the son of the famous actress, officially connected his fate with Mariam after four years of living together. The celebration took place in the monastery, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The ceremony was modest but full of emotions, and the monastery was closed to tourists for 40 minutes for the wedding.
For the critical day, Mariam chose a classic dress with long ivory sleeves, adding a veil, while Carlo chose a black suit and a traditional Georgian cape. According to information, even the Orthodox faith was adopted by Carlo in honor of his beloved, which added meaning to their union.
Although 90-year-old Sophia Loren was unable to attend the ceremony, she warmly welcomed her new daughter-in-law and expressed her support for their marriage, despite the age difference. The couple is reportedly planning another ceremony in Geneva, where the actress is likely to appear.
Carlo already has two children from his previous marriage to Hungarian violinist Andrea Meszáros, while Mariam is also the mother of two sons. Sources say this has strengthened their relationship.
