Prices for vegetables and fruits will fall: Ukrainians are recommended the best time to purchase supplies
In August 2025, Ukraine is expected to continue to decline in prices for vegetables and fruits, as stated by Inna Salo, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics. According to her, this trend is caused by a seasonal increase in the supply of vegetables growing in open ground. In addition, the decrease in prices is affected by the costs of storage, transportation, as well as fuel and electricity prices.
In July, prices for borscht vegetables have already decreased by 30–63%. Beets, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and onions have become the most expensive. In August, their prices are expected to decrease by up to 15% compared to July.
A similar situation is observed in the segment of salad vegetables, the cost of which has become 32.3% lower. However, there are also types of vegetables that, on the contrary, have become more expensive; for example, prickly cucumbers have risen in price by 15%.
As for fruit, it is predicted that the price of apples, which reached 100 hryvnias per kilogram in July, will decrease due to the domestic harvest.
At the same time, imported fruits remain more expensive, although some of them, such as bananas, lemons, and tangerines, have become cheaper. However, the prices of oranges and grapes have increased.
According to forecasts, in August 2025, there will be a further decrease in the price of vegetables by up to 15% compared to July. Onions, potatoes, and beets should decrease in price the most, which will be facilitated by an increase in their supply volumes, storage conditions, and logistics.
