Students are being prepared for military service: the president approved the law
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed draft law No. 13276, which amends Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service”.
This document introduces a program for training reserve officers of the medical service. Under its terms, Ukrainians who already have or are studying for higher education (with a bachelor’s degree and higher) will be able to train as reserve officers, provided that they are recognized as suitable for military service and have successfully passed professional and psychological selection. It is important to note that for students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties, retraining within the framework of this program will become mandatory.
The training procedure will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, based on the proposals of the Ministry of Defense, taking into account the agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health.
All higher educational institutions, regardless of their form of ownership or subordination, that have an appropriate license for training medical specialists are obliged to ensure that students who meet health requirements and have successfully passed the selection undergo military training.
The Ministry of Defense will form the list of military-accounting specialties and the scope of training at the proposal of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. For medical and pharmaceutical specialties, the list will be agreed upon with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.
The law will enter into force the day after its official publication, and the implementation of the program will begin on January 1, 2026.
