10 kopecks will cease to circulate: Ukrainians were told what to do with small coins in their wallets

Ukrainians should prepare for changes in finances: from October 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to withdraw coins with a denomination of 10 kopecks from circulation. These coins, which were once commonplace in everyday life, are gradually losing relevance as a means of payment.

Currently, there are approximately 4.1 billion 10 kopecks in circulation, but their use in routine payments has practically disappeared. People rarely turn to these coins, and sellers in stores have already become accustomed to the lack of change.

Unlike 50 kopecks, which still have value in trade, 10 kopecks have become a burden for banks and the state. The costs of their production, transportation, and storage exceed any benefit. The National Bank is aware of this situation and has decided that it is time to say goodbye to these coins.

However, the withdrawal of coins will not happen immediately. From October 1, 2025, they will no longer be minted, but they can still be used in payments until a final decision is made to withdraw them from circulation.

After withdrawal from circulation, Ukrainians will be able to deposit 10 kopecks in banks, transfer them to accounts, or make payments, but these coins will not appear back in their wallets. Banks will transfer them to the NBU, where they will be disposed of.

But the most crucial question: how will this affect prices? When paying in cash, the amount will be rounded, just as it was done with coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, and 25 kopecks. Sellers will round amounts to the nearest 0 or 50 kopecks. However, when paying by card, prices will remain accurate to the nearest kopeck.

In this regard, Ukrainians should pay attention to the new rules for payments in stores.
