Water only – 1000 UAH: tariffs can skyrocket

An increase in water supply and sewerage tariffs could significantly hit Ukrainians’ finances. Deputy General Director for Strategic Policy of Kyivvodokanal, Dmytro Novytsky, said that the current average tariff, which fluctuates around UAH 30 per cubic meter, could increase to UAH 150, and in some regions it could reach UAH 200.

For a family consuming five cubic meters of water per month, the monthly bill would increase from approximately UAH 150 to UAH 600-750, while in cities with maximum tariffs, it could reach UAH 850-1,000.

The new tariff plan, if implemented, would be a severe test for many families, especially those with low incomes. The expert emphasized the need to enhance state support for vulnerable groups within the population by expanding the subsidy program.

According to Dmytro Novytsky, the tariff increase not only pursues fiscal goals. It will also enable water utilities to enhance the quality of services, as well as undertake necessary repairs and modernize outdated infrastructure that requires urgent updating.
