Tax evaders pay insignificant amounts: violators cross the border en masse
Administrative sanctions in the form of fines have been established for violating the state border of Ukraine, but, unfortunately, they do not stop people from committing such offenses.
Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Service, noted that the current fines are unsatisfactory, as they do not prevent violations. According to him, border guards draw up administrative protocols on persons who violate the border and refer them to court, but this does not lead to a decrease in cases of illegal border crossing.
“If we compare the number of attempts to cross the border before February 24, 2022, illegally and now, we observe a significant increase,” the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine emphasized. In 2025, border guards detained more than 13 thousand offenders, a significant part of whom tried to travel abroad illegally, and some of them were detained not for the first time.
Demchenko also expressed the opinion that some of the violators were detained three to four times, and some were caught more than ten times for attempting to cross the border illegally. He added that the size of the fines is significantly less than the unjustified expenses that violators are willing to bear for the sake of illegal schemes.
