The first teaser for the controversial film adaptation of ”Wuthering Heights” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has been unveiled
The film “Wuthering Heights,” directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, has released its first teaser, sparking considerable discussion even before its release.
Warner Bros. presented a video that gained 1.7 million views in the first 12 hours. At the same time, a Ukrainian dubbed version was released. The film will be released in theaters under the title “Wuthering Heights”.
The one-and-a-half-minute teaser depicts the relationship between Catherine (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi), as well as their rival, Edgar (Shazad Latif). The tension of the scene is emphasized by the soundtrack by Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek, “Everything is romantic”.
Emerald Fennell is known not only as an actress but also as a director of the films “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn”. In Wuthering Heights, she played three roles simultaneously: screenwriter, director, and producer. Fennell reimagined the classic Gothic novel, focusing on themes of love, revenge, and social inequality.
Margot Robbie played the female lead, and Jacob Elordi embodied the image of Heathcliff. Owen Cooper portrayed this character as a child, and Charlotte Mellington played the young Catherine. The cast also includes Hong Chau (Nelly Dean), Alison Oliver (Isabella Linton), and Shazad Latif (Edgar Linton).
The film sparked an intense competition at the stage of obtaining the rights to shoot, when Robbie and Elordi became the leading performers. While Netflix offered $150 million, Warner Bros. won the race, paying $80 million.
Early reviews from critics suggest significant changes compared to the original, and also offer mixed opinions on the choice of actors and the perspective of many erotic scenes, which have already sparked considerable controversy.
Other actors who took part in the filming include Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell. The film is produced by Emerald Fennell, Margot Robbie, and Josie McNamara, and the soundtrack will be created by Anthony Willis, with additional tracks written by Charli XCX.
The film premiere of “Wuthering Heights” is scheduled for February 13, 2026.
