Ferrari boss John Elkann to spend a year as a janitor due to tax obligations

Ferrari boss John Elkann has been sentenced for tax evasion. A court in Turin has ordered him to pay a multi-million-euro fine and serve a year of community service.

According to the BBC, Elkann has reached a plea deal with prosecutors. He, his brother Lapo, and sister Ginevra have agreed to pay a fine of €183 million and work for a year as janitors or caretakers in care homes, despite pleading not guilty.

The case was initiated over allegations of tax evasion on assets worth around €1 billion that the brothers and sister inherited from their grandmother, Marella Agnelli, who died in 2019.

The Agnelli family is one of the most influential industrial dynasties in Italy, the founders of FIAT, the owners of the most significant stake in the concern, as well as the football club Juventus. John Elkann has been the head of Ferrari since 2017.

The legal disputes over the inheritance of Gianni Agnelli, the former CEO of Fiat, and his wife, Marella, have been ongoing for many years. John, Lapo, and Ginevra Elkann also had a conflict with their mother, Margherita Agnelli, who wanted the property to go to her five children from her second marriage
