ChatGPT is developing a new feature designed to enhance the safety of teenagers. Soon, the service will introduce a parental control option that will enable adults to manage their children’s use of the application.

OpenAI noted that they began implementing this innovation, given the criticism about the possible negative impact of chatbots on the mental state of teenagers, including the risk of self-harm. Adults will be able to link their accounts with their children’s accounts and access their settings, according to CNN.

Parents will be able to control the types of responses that children receive from ChatGPT, as well as turn off certain features, such as memory or conversation history. The system will also be able to send notifications if it detects signs of “acute stress” in a teenager’s behavior while communicating with the bot.

The developers emphasize that this is just the beginning of work on the safety of younger users. “These steps are the first stage. We will continue to research and improve our approach, consulting with experts, to make ChatGPT as useful and safe as possible,” OpenAI said.
