Money for products will not be enough: possible changes in gas tariffs

In Ukraine, there is a significant difference between the real value of gas and the price paid by consumers. Currently, residents of the country pay approximately 8 UAH per cubic meter of gas, while the actual purchase price ranges from 15 to 16 UAH. This situation results in significant financial losses for supply companies, including Naftogaz.

According to Sergiy Nagornyak, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing, the government is forced to allocate additional funds to support energy companies. Naftogaz, which supplies gas to approximately 98% of the population, receives loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development at low interest rates, while its gas debt continues to grow.

In addition, the company must fulfill several liabilities, such as modernizing equipment and repairing damaged networks, to ensure a stable gas supply. Despite these calls, the gas tariff has remained unchanged at UAH 7.96 per cubic meter, as of April 30, 2026. If martial law continues, the price is likely to remain fixed for an extended period.

This situation is of concern because, in the context of war and economic instability, future changes in housing and communal tariffs can have a significant impact on the budgets of families.
