Dmitry Karpachov, a specialist in child psychology, said on his Instagram that determination is an essential characteristic, without which even the best knowledge will not bring the desired results.

The expert noted: “If a child is brilliant, but indecisive, no one will be able to assess his level of intelligence.” An indecisive child often cannot discover his potential and demonstrate his knowledge. “So, knowledge is important, but certain character traits must supplement it,” he added. Karpachov recommends that parents take this into account before scolding their child for low grades. Constant critical remarks can lower a child’s self-esteem, which is a much more serious problem than just poor test results.

The expert also emphasized: “Constant remarks can suppress a child’s determination, which is closely related to self-esteem and self-confidence. Only self-confident children can achieve success.” In conclusion, he called for caution with criticism, as it can harm a child’s mental state.
