Kirovohrad Region Forestry Official Will Be Responsible for Destruction of Old Trees
On the territory of the branch of the “Holovanivskyi Forestry” of the state enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, illegal processing of permits for felling of ancient oaks, maples, ash trees, and lindens was discovered. The state’s losses from these actions exceeded 4 million hryvnias.
The State Bureau of Investigation is actively investigating officials involved in the illegal destruction of forest resources. Recently, a pre-trial investigation into a case involving illicit large-scale logging on the territory of the specified forestry enterprise was completed in the Kirovograd region.
Based on the evidence received, the investigation found that one of the heads of the forestry enterprise abused his position and issued fictitious logging tickets to carry out illegal tree felling. His actions were aimed at improving the enterprise’s plan performance and demonstrating its profitability.
During this year, about 600 trees over 100 years old were destroyed under his leadership. The law prohibits the cutting down of such trees without proper grounds.
The damage to the state caused by the official’s illegal actions is estimated at over 4 million hryvnias. The indictment has already been sent to court. The suspect is currently under house arrest. He has been charged with illegal logging and abuse of office. If convicted, the man could face up to 10 years in prison.
Law enforcement agencies have also filed a civil lawsuit to recover damages in the state’s interests. The Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor’s Office manages these proceedings.
