Is the child really not interested in sports: advice from psychologist Dmitry Karpachov
Sports and children’s interests: expert advice
Parents always strive to give their children the best, so they often enroll them in various clubs, and sports play a special role here. Sports help develop strength, endurance, and self-discipline, but sometimes children may not be interested in these activities, which can cause particular difficulties.
Dmitry Karpachov, an expert in child psychology, shared his thoughts as part of the “Supermom” project. He discussed how parents can tell whether a child is genuinely not interested or does not like the chosen sport. In his speech, Dmitry answered the question of a mother whose child is seriously involved in hockey, training up to 8 times a week, but sometimes expresses a desire to quit.
The expert recommends introducing a trial period before making a final decision. “Discuss with your child: ‘I understand that you don’t want to, but let’s take it to its logical conclusion. For example, you participate in the next competition, and then we’ll discuss whether to continue or stop,” he suggests. It is essential that this not be manipulative, and you should return to the conversation after the competition to consider whether the child wants to continue playing sports.
Dmytro emphasizes that such practice will help to understand the child’s true desires.
Previously, we discussed the symptoms with which you should not go to school or kindergarten, as well as the mistakes of parents that can affect the success of children’s studies. In particular, as part of the school nutrition reform, the changes awaiting students are discussed.
