Louvre suspends work after night robbery in Paris

On October 19, 2025, in Paris, a robbery occurred at the famous Louvre Museum.

The incident was reported by the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. During the museum’s opening, the criminals stole jewelry without causing any injuries. The museum is currently closed for investigation.

According to the newspaper Le Parisien, the criminals, dressed in hoods, broke into the building from the Seine embankment, where renovation work is underway. Two of the attackers broke windows, while the third remained on the side. The robbers stole nine items from the collection of jewelry of Napoleon and French monarchs, including a necklace, a brooch, and a tiara, which were displayed in display cases. After committing the crime, they fled on motorcycles.

The Louvre is one of the largest and most popular museums in the world, housing more than 300,000 exhibits from antiquity to the 19th century across an area of over 72,000 square meters. Previously, in 2025, the museum faced problems due to staff protests and security issues, but this theft is the first of this scale in recent years. Police are actively investigating the incident, and additional information will be provided in the near future.
