Vegetables became cheaper by 15–18%, while meat prices increased by 25%

In Ukraine, meat prices have increased by 25% over the past year, while vegetable prices have decreased by approximately 15–18%.

This was reported by Oleg Pendzin, a member of the Economic Discussion Club, during an airing on Kyiv24.

The expert noted that the increase in meat prices is mainly due to ongoing Russian attacks, which complicate logistics and production processes. At the same time, he said that in the future, meat prices will grow more slowly than in the previous year.

Trends in vegetable prices

Prices for basic borscht vegetables, such as potatoes, white cabbage, and carrots, continue to decline. On the other hand, greenhouse crops, such as cucumbers, have been experiencing price increases for four weeks, and sweet peppers are also becoming more expensive. Tomato prices have increased due to reduced market supply.

Among other vegetables, there are mixed changes: zucchini is becoming more expensive, eggplant is becoming cheaper, Beijing cabbage has decreased in price, while broccoli has increased in price. Cauliflower prices vary widely depending on quality. The cost of garlic and greens has also increased, except for green onions.

The situation in the fruit and berry market

The price situation on the fruit and berry market is uneven. Watermelons, melons, blueberries, and nectarines continue to become more expensive, while raspberries, peaches, plums, and grapes have become significantly cheaper. Experts note that table grape prices mainly depend on imported supplies.

This year’s pear harvest is expected to be relatively small, potentially leading to a shortage and higher prices. Demand for greens, particularly lettuce and other types, remains high.

Interestingly, pumpkin has once again become one of the top sellers this season and is selling at a higher price than in previous years.
