The start of the heating season is delayed due to insufficient gas supply

Lviv is experiencing a gas shortage, which is making it difficult to start the heating system. The city lacks approximately 2 million cubic meters of fuel to provide heat to all residential buildings.

In this regard, local authorities are obliged to temporarily postpone the start of the heating season and focus on providing heat to social infrastructure, such as schools, kindergartens, and hospitals. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi stated this during a press conference.

He noted that winter may be severe, so Lviv is ready to test heating systems under conditions not previously tested. This year, the tests will be held simultaneously in all parts of the city.

The start of the heating season is postponed.

The head of the city explained that, despite the decrease in temperatures, heating in Lviv will not be turned on in the coming weeks. Currently, the city’s gas limit for October is 8 million cubic meters, although at least 10 million cubic meters are needed to launch the system in all residential buildings fully. The authorities hope to receive additional fuel from the central government to avoid winter disruptions.

The city administration also urges residents to take care of alternative sources of heat—for example, heaters, generators, or warm clothing. Lviv residents are warned of possible temporary restrictions on electricity supply due to increased load on the energy system.

Currently, heat is supplied only to municipal institutions—educational, medical, and social institutions that have applied for connection. Other consumers should be prepared for a later start to the heating season.
