Trump and Xi Jinping to discuss war in Ukraine and Russian oil imports

US President Donald Trump plans to discuss with Chinese leader Xi Jinping the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war, ways to resolve it, as well as the Chinese side’s purchase of Russian oil, which he considers a source of financing the conflict.

Trump expressed these thoughts during a flight to Malaysia aboard his Air Force plane. According to him, Russia is losing about 7,000 soldiers every week, and he hopes for China’s assistance in ending the war. The US president stressed that the sanctions imposed on Russia are “painful” for the aggressor.

The meeting is scheduled for October 30 in Busan (South Korea) as part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, as reported by White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt. Trump will also visit Malaysia and Japan, where he will hold several bilateral meetings.

The American leader noted that during the negotiations, he intends to discuss the possibility of reducing purchases of Russian oil by China, as these actions encourage the continuation of the war in Ukraine. Trump emphasized the role of his predecessors, Joe Biden and Barack Obama, in creating a coalition between Russia and China, which, in his opinion, contributed to the escalation of tensions.

He also noted: “I will talk to him about how to end the war between Russia and Ukraine: over oil, energy, or other issues. I think he is ready for this – right now, he wants this war to end.”

Recall that earlier, the issue of Russian fuel became the main one in US trade negotiations with India, where part of the duties on Indian goods was a response to the purchase of oil supporting the war in Ukraine. Trump emphasizes that during the meeting with Xi Jinping, special attention will be paid to this aspect.
