Pentagon approves sending Tomahawks: final decision up to Trump

The Pentagon has confirmed its intention to transfer long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, believing that this does not threaten the defense capabilities of the United States. This is reported by CNN, citing sources in the American and European governments. However, the final word remains with President Donald Trump, who has not yet commented on this issue.

In early October, during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Trump expressed the opposite opinion, emphasizing the need to preserve weapons for the defense of the United States. This contradicts his previous statements, when he noted that the United States has enough Tomahawk missiles that can be transferred to Ukraine.

According to CNN, the Trump administration has developed a backup plan for missile supply in case the decision changes. Sources report that Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with Putin’s unwillingness to negotiate peace, which prompted him to support new sanctions against Russian oil companies.

The launch of Tomahawk missiles remains problematic, as they are usually fired from ships or submarines. Ukraine does not have such, so the possibility of adapting ground-based installations, which could be provided by the US or adapted by Ukraine, is being considered.

Recall that the planned second summit between Trump and Putin was canceled due to failures in negotiations with Russia. The White House decided to abandon the meeting in Budapest.
