US confirms withdrawal from G20 summit in South Africa

US President Donald Trump has announced that the US will not participate in this year’s G20 summit in South Africa.

This became known thanks to information disseminated by Reuters. Trump noted that no representative of the US administration will attend the event scheduled for November 22-23. The summit would bring together leaders of the world’s leading economies to discuss pressing global issues.

Washington’s refusal to participate in the summit is connected with the deterioration of relations between the US and South Africa. Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed criticism of the South African government regarding its land policy and relations with Israel.

Back in April, Trump stated his position, indicating the seriousness of the issue related to the “genocide of white farmers” in South Africa. These comments resonated strongly both in South Africa and among the international community.

As the summit approaches, rumors are emerging about a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Finnish President Alexander Stubb has suggested that the G20 format could serve as a platform for meaningful discussions. However, without the participation of the United States, such a meeting could lose some of its diplomatic significance. Washington is demonstrating its position by avoiding public presence at international forums where South Africa is participating.

Trump also commented again on the situation in Ukraine, claiming that the conflict could end in a short time, in just a few months.
