Six employees of Ukrzaliznytsia are suspected of systematic theft of fuel from locomotives

Law enforcement agencies have exposed a group of Ukrzaliznytsia officials who organized a large-scale scheme to steal diesel fuel from locomotives and special railway equipment.

This was reported by representatives of the National Police and the Prosecutor General’s Office. According to information, the organizer was an employee of the branch responsible for servicing the Lviv Railway tracks.

Employees of the Lviv and Odessa branches were involved in the criminal activity, some of whom were on a business trip to Transcarpathia to carry out repair work.

The investigation revealed that the locomotives were specially sent to the engine station, where the group members poured diesel fuel into canisters. The stolen fuel was sold to residents for cash. Law enforcement officers recorded six incidents in October and November, during which almost 5,000 liters were stolen, of which more than 3.8 tons were sold.

During nine searches, 1.4 tons of diesel fuel, pumping equipment, hoses, almost 200 canisters, a car, and cash received from the sale of fuel were seized.

Six employees of Ukrzaliznytsia have already been charged with theft committed under martial law (Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The prosecutor’s office plans to file a motion with the court to take the suspects into custody. The article provides for a sentence of imprisonment of five to eight years.
