Updated payments for parents: what amount will be for each child

A new law has been adopted in Ukraine that will significantly affect the financial security of young families. Starting next year, parents of newborns can expect a considerably larger lump-sum benefit, as well as monthly payments in the first years of a child’s life. The government claims that these changes are intended not only to support families but also to increase the birth rate, as the number of births is declining each year.

According to the adopted bill No. 13532, the lump-sum benefit at birth will increase to 50,000 hryvnias, five times the previous amount. Currently, young parents receive 41,280 hryvnias, of which the central part is paid over three years, while under the new law, the entire amount will be provided immediately after the birth of the child.

In addition, parents will receive a monthly benefit — during the first year of the child’s life, the state will provide 7,000 hryvnias per month. If the child has a disability, this amount will increase to 10,500 hryvnias. After the child reaches 1 year of age, the payment will increase to 8 thousand hryvnias, provided that one or both parents return to work. The program was called “e-Nursery”; it was created to support families who combine work with raising children.

An important innovation is also the payment of 7 thousand hryvnias for pregnant women who are not officially employed or do not have insurance. These funds will be provided 70 days before childbirth, so that women can prepare everything they need without financial difficulties.

The “Baby Package” program or cash compensation of 7,500 hryvnias will also be preserved. This assistance will be available even before childbirth, from the 36th week of pregnancy. In addition, the “Schoolchild Package” has been introduced – a one-time payment of 5 thousand hryvnias for first-graders.

The law will come into force on January 1, 2026, upon the president’s signature. Payments will also apply to children born before this date, if they are not yet one year old at that time.
