Небезпечно і безглуздо: 5 пристроїв, які не варто заряджати від повербанку

Dangerous and pointless: 5 devices that should not be charged from a power bank

If your phone, headphones, or tablet need charging, a power bank can help. However, it’s important to remember that this portable power source is not universal. Connecting some devices to it is not only pointless but also dangerous, SlashGear notes.

Power banks provide direct current (DC) via USB, which makes them suitable only for low-power devices. At the same time, household appliances and other energy-intensive devices use alternating current (AC) and require much more power and voltage stability. Improper connection can lead to overheating, short circuits, damage to electronics, or even fire.

Household appliances that operate on AC mains

Appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, refrigerators, or washing machines consume power from several hundred to thousands of watts. For example, even a regular toaster uses 800–1800 watts, which significantly exceeds the capabilities of a typical power bank. Therefore, attempts to connect can lead to overheating and battery failure.

Laptops, game consoles, and monitors

Regular laptops require about 100 watts, and gaming models even more. Game consoles and monitors also require stable power, which ordinary power banks cannot provide. Even if the battery supports fast charging, its capacity is insufficient for long-term operation under these conditions, and it discharges quickly.

Power tools

Drills, saws, grinders, and other tools consume from 500 to 3000 watts and are designed to work with mains power or their own batteries. Using adapters found on the Internet does not solve the problem – it is dangerous for both the tool and the power bank itself.

12V Car Devices

Compressors, car refrigerators, and car vacuum cleaners operate from the cigarette lighter, consuming starting currents that a regular USB power bank cannot provide. Using adapters increases the risk of overheating and device failure.

Other power banks and USB hubs

You can charge one power bank from another only if the manufacturer has provided the function of simultaneous “charging and output” through different ports. Otherwise, a current pulse can occur, leading to overheating and battery failure. The same problem applies to USB hubs: connecting several devices simultaneously often exceeds the power limit, which can harm both the power bank and the connected devices.
