Scheme of fictitious renovation of the Polytechnic Lyceum: the organizer was suspected

The director of a private construction company was suspected of embezzling more than 330,000 hryvnias allocated for the renovation of the Polytechnic Lyceum. The Kyiv police press service reported this.

The scheme was organized by the director, whose company was awarded the contract following the tender. According to the investigation, he undertook to carry out significant repairs to the educational institution’s premises but decided to embezzle the funds received. To do this, the perpetrator involved his brother and his cohabitant in the case, drawing up contract agreements for them to create the appearance of the work of several performers.

The examination showed that some of the planned work, in particular the decoration and replacement of interior fittings, was not carried out or was only partially completed. Despite this, the director provided unreliable data on the work performed.

As a result of the forged documentation, more than 330,000 hryvnias were transferred from the capital’s budget to the accounts of fictitious contractors.

The investigative authorities, under the control of the Solomyansk District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the suspect of the crime in accordance with Part 3 of Article 27 and Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These articles provide for a penalty of up to eight years’ imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
