The expert revealed the scale of the destruction at the TPP and urged not to pin hopes on them

As a result of Russian attacks, many thermal power plants in Ukraine have been severely damaged, significantly reducing their ability to generate the required electricity. Energy expert Yuriy Korolchuk said this during his appearance on the “Ranok.LIVE” program.

The expert clarified that one should not say that the thermal power plants have entirely lost their operational capacity. “Some of the facilities have damage within 30-70%, but there are also those that continue to function,” he noted.

Thermal power plants are large infrastructure complexes that occupy significant areas, making their destruction a technically challenging task. However, due to the damage, electricity production has dropped significantly.

“These facilities are extensive, and they are difficult to destroy, even under conditions of intensive shelling. But, of course, due to damage, they lose their importance for the energy system, since they cannot provide the necessary amount of electricity,” Korolchuk added.

The expert also noted that a decrease in temperature can complicate power outages. Now, milder weather and reduced industrial activity help maintain balance in the energy system. However, this brings several economic problems, including lower wages and falling tax revenues. These are the factors that previously allowed for the stabilization of energy supplies during the winter period.
