Fraud in Obolon: man transferred ownership of deceased’s apartment to his wife
According to the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, a 44-year-old Kyiv resident has become a suspect in a fraud case related to the seizure of an apartment in Obolon.
Investigators found that the man, an acquaintance of the heir to the apartment, convinced him that he could help register the apartment in his name. He received a power of attorney to represent the interests of the heir.
The heir died on the same day. Knowing this, the suspect approached a private notary and registered a purchase and sale agreement for the apartment in his wife’s name, for which no payment was made. The estimated cost of the condo was UAH 1.5 million.
The losses for the heirs amount to UAH 1.5 million. As a result of searches of the suspect’s and his wife’s apartments, documents confirming the fraud were seized. The property is currently under arrest.
According to Ukrainian law, the punishment for large-scale fraud is imprisonment of 5 to 12 years, with the possibility of property confiscation. The Dnipro Police Department of Kyiv is conducting the pre-trial investigation.
