Loss of rights for talking on the phone while driving: how drivers are punished

While driving, drivers often receive phone calls at the most inopportune times. Many of them subconsciously try to answer, even though it would be more reasonable to stop.

Lawyer Oleg Savchuk from Cherkasy notes that a single moment with a phone in his hands can lead to serious consequences, including the loss of a car or peace of mind. Given his 20 years of experience, he has witnessed numerous cases in which accidents ended in tragedy.

Law enforcement officers also support this point of view, emphasizing that using a smartphone distracts drivers from the road. The car continues its journey, and the driver’s reaction slows. Even a short-term distraction can cause an accident. Traffic laws strictly prohibit using a mobile phone while driving. Violation of this rule is subject to a fine of 510 hryvnias.

Although the amount seems small, the transition from this fine to the deprivation of rights is effortless. If the driver’s actions led to an emergency that forced other road users to change speed or direction abruptly, the fine will reach 1445 hryvnias, and the driver’s license may be revoked.

Witnesses to surrounding events often note that a phone call is not worth it. It is recommended to pull over to the side of the road before answering the call.
