Temperatures will drop significantly in Ukraine: forecasters announce date of -12°C and time of return of heat
December continues to impress Ukrainians with lingering autumn conditions, but winter will soon remind us of itself.
In the coming days, the country will experience a short-term cooling period, felt most by residents of the eastern and northern regions. Forecaster Ihor Kibalchych reported this.
In early December, Ukraine experienced abnormally warm, humid weather, more like late autumn.
However, winter is gradually asserting its authority: by December 10, the first snow cover, 1 to 7 centimeters thick, had formed in some regions, although it will not remain on the ground for long.
From December 13, a noticeable cooling will begin in Ukraine, especially on the Left Bank, where night temperatures can drop to -12°C. The frosty weather will be short-lived, and after December 16, a general warming is predicted.
Forecasters have released a forecast for the next ten days, indicating temperature fluctuations – from light frosts to the return of abnormal heat.
Weather on December 11-12: humid, warm and with little snow
During December 11-12, most regions will be under the influence of humid air, with light rain, fog, and mist expected. The wind will be mainly westerly at 7–12 m/s.
The air temperature will fluctuate: • at night: from -1°C to +6°C; • during the day: +2…+7°C, in the south and in some western regions – up to +10°C.
A cold snap will begin on December 13
The first cold snap will be felt in the north and east, where cold air masses from Finland will lower the temperature.
On the Left Bank, the following is expected: • at night: -2…-8°C; • during the day: -4…+1°C.
The wind will change direction to the north and north-west, with gusts up to 15-20 m/s.
The coldest night: December 16 to -12°C
The forecaster predicts the coldest temperature will be observed on December 16. In the eastern regions and Dnipropetrovsk region, the temperature may drop to -9…-12°C.
In the Right Bank, the cold will be less noticeable: mostly above 0°C during the day and slight minuses at night.
Return of warmth after December 16
After a short-term cold snap, warming will return with winds from the west and southwest.
The temperature is forecasted: • at night: about 0°C; • during the day: +1…+7°C throughout Ukraine.
According to the forecaster, over the next 10 days, the weather in Ukraine will remain unstable, with frequent changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature.
The formation of stable snow cover is not expected, except in the high-mountain regions of the Carpathians.
