Christmas garlands can be dangerous: what is important to consider

With the winter holidays approaching, many Ukrainians are starting to decorate their homes with holiday lights and garlands. However, as experts from “Prykarpattyaoblenergo” note, even decorative electrical appliances can be dangerous if misused.

Experts recommend buying garlands only from trusted stores, checking the availability of quality certificates, and verifying the integrity of the insulation and the serviceability of the LEDs at the time of purchase.

It is necessary to avoid using damaged products. A signal to turn off and dispose of the garland includes flickering bulbs, sparks, excessive wire heating, or insulation failure.

It is also essential to monitor the garlands after they are connected; they should not overheat. If the garlands were brought from the cold, they should be given time to acclimate to room temperature before turning them on.

Experts warn: do not attempt to repair damaged garlands yourself unless you have the appropriate qualifications. Also, do not combine illumination with open fire, candles, or pyrotechnics.
