Up to 100 invaders remain in Kupyansk – Zelenskyy’s comment on the situation in the city

Kupyansk is becoming an arena for active actions to clear the territory from Russian troops. According to the president, about 80-100 occupiers who have lost control of the situation remain in the city.

The Defense Forces’ operation in Kupyansk, in the Kharkiv region, is ongoing. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, as of December 22, approximately 80-100 Russian troops remain in the city.

The head of state announced this information during a press conference at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The clearing is ongoing, and we control Kupyansk. There are very few Russians left – about 80-100 people, they are temporary,” Zelensky noted.

Despite statements by the Russian Federation about its control over Kupyansk, the Ukrainian military confidently maintains control of the situation. As Viktor Tregubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces Group, indicated, no more than 200 Russian troops remain in the city.

Tregubov also added that about 40 units were recorded by active radio call signs in Kupyansk. However, this data was obtained ten days ago, and the situation could have changed. It is also essential that a single active radio be used by multiple people, making it difficult to accurately assess the number of occupants.

He recalled that on November 15, the occupiers dropped Russian flags from drones to create propaganda materials that indicated their presence in the city.

At the moment, the enemy continues to put pressure on the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine located on the eastern bank of the Oskil River and is making unsuccessful attempts to unblock Kupyansk.

Oleksandr Syrsky also announced the concentration of up to 710,000 Russian soldiers for the offensive, but no serious successes have been observed in their operations. Although the enemy is suffering heavy losses, the attacks continue. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, in turn, pushed the enemy back from Kupyansk and established control over most of the city.
