With the prices of New Year’s products, the festive table looks less attractive
In 2026, a typical New Year’s table for a Ukrainian family of four will cost about 3,980 hryvnias, according to the National Research Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics”. This is 10.7% more than last year.
The festive menu will include traditional dishes such as salads, meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, bread, and pastries, along with a variety of drinks. At current prices, the main dishes have also become more expensive. For example, three kilograms of ingredients for Olivier salad cost 406.87 hryvnias, which is 5.8% more than in 2025. The cost of sausage for this salad is 180 hryvnias per half kilogram, up 12.5% from last year. In contrast, prices for potatoes, carrots, and onions have decreased, while egg yolks, green peas, canned cucumbers, and mayonnaise have become more expensive.
The price of “Herring under a fur coat” salad has increased to about 175 hryvnias, with the main cost being herring fillet. Prices for meat products have increased by 23%: raw smoked sausage “Braunshveyzka” – 410 hryvnias, bacon – 276 hryvnias, and pork knuckle – 339 hryvnias. Although poultry meat has also become more expensive, it remains the cheapest option: a kilogram of chicken fillet costs 244 hryvnias, and the total cost of 2.8 kilograms of meat products will be about 1,269 hryvnias.
Traditional herring now costs 135 hryvnias for half a kilogram of fillet, and prices for dairy products have also increased: hard cheese reaches 176 hryvnias for 300 grams, and butter – up to 118 hryvnias for 200 grams.
Thus, despite some decrease in prices for individual vegetables, the total cost of New Year’s celebrations has increased significantly, making it more expensive for Ukrainian families in 2026.
