Ukrainians are alarmed by the threat of a prolonged blackout: an expert revealed the enemy’s real plans

Russia’s latest attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have raised concerns among the population about possible long-term power outages. Fears of a prolonged blackout lasting several days are increasingly being expressed on social media. However, experts say such a development is unlikely at the moment, though certain risks remain.

Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, noted that it is now more difficult for the occupiers to “extinguish” the entire country at once than in 2022. At that time, the Ukrainian energy system was less protected and lacked sufficient experience to respond to massive attacks.

The expert emphasized that Ukraine’s air defense capabilities have increased significantly. The number of air defense systems has increased significantly, enabling more effective neutralization of enemy missiles and drones targeting energy facilities.

In addition, energy workers have gained extensive experience in stabilizing the system. Practice has shown that emergency shutdown algorithms and backup power supply schemes work much more effectively, making it difficult to cut off the country completely.

However, Popenko emphasizes that risks remain in certain regions. Attacks can be targeted, which leads to temporary power outages in specific regions or cities, especially if they hit critical facilities.

Recently, YASNO announced a forecast for the duration of the outages, which could reach 12 hours without electricity.
