Make-up, sport and sauna: what to avoid after Botox procedure
Botox has become a popular procedure in aesthetic medicine, used not only to eliminate wrinkles but also for therapeutic purposes.
The actual outcome of the treatment depends not only on the doctor’s qualifications but also on the patient’s compliance with the recommendations after the injections. Botox, containing botulinum toxin A, is intended for temporary muscle relaxation. It is used to treat migraines, excessive sweating, jaw problems, and to correct facial expressions.
After the procedure, it is important to avoid contact with the face, not wash, or massage the area where the injection was performed for at least 6 hours. This is necessary to prevent the risk of infection, as the skin is treated with antiseptics. If washing is necessary, use only clean hands and warm water without aggressive detergents.
After having a Botox injection, it is also recommended to refrain from wearing makeup for at least 24 hours, as the makeup can cause inflammation in the injection sites. Doctors recommend using an SPF 50 sunscreen to protect sensitive skin from the sun’s rays.
Active physical activity should be avoided after the procedure. Vigorous exercise can increase blood pressure and blood circulation, which may cause swelling, bruising, or dislodgement of the drug. Calm walks are permissible, but you should refrain from strength and cardio training for 48 hours.
It is not recommended to lie down or tilt your head for 2-3 hours after the injection to prevent uneven distribution of Botox. It is also worth refraining from drinking alcohol for 24-48 hours, because it can suppress blood coagulation and provoke the appearance of bruises.
Experts advise avoiding saunas, active sun, and cosmetic procedures for 10 days after injections, as well as avoiding pressing on the injection areas and not sleeping on your face for the first 4 hours.
