Ukrainians will need to update many documents: what circumstances does this apply to?

After marriage, Ukrainians will need to update several documents. The Ivano-Frankivsk Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice provided explanations on this issue.

So, which documents should be updated?

Internal passport. It must be replaced at the SMS units or at the Centers for Providing Administrative Services within a month of receiving the marriage certificate.
International passport. It is updated only after receiving a new internal passport.
RNOKPP (identification code). You need to obtain a new document with an updated surname and notify the tax service within one month.
Driver’s license. It can be changed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers or via the “Diya” application within 10 days.
Car documents. It is necessary to re-register the vehicle and renew the insurance.
Medical data. You need to re-conclude a declaration with a doctor and renew the health insurance policy.
Bank documents. We are talking about updating cards, accounts, and contracts.
Will. It is recommended to re-register with a notary to avoid misunderstandings in the future.
Entrepreneur information (FOP). When doing business, you should update the data in the Unified State Register.
It is worth noting that some documents remain valid even after a name change and do not require updating. For example, certificates, diplomas, real estate documents, and a workbook (supplemented only with a record of the change of surname).

Although Ukrainian law does not require you to change your surname after marriage, if you decide to do so, you must update your documents in advance.
