The threat of freezing sewer systems: explanations from experts
Kyivvodokanal has denied rumors about the possibility of freezing of sewer networks in the capital and the need to install cesspools in the Troyeschyna region. According to the company’s press service, the sewer systems are located at depths below the soil-freezing level.
In addition, the wastewater temperature remains above freezing, and its constant movement prevents freezing.
Representatives of Kyivvodokanal emphasized an important aspect: pipes running from houses to the nearest sewer wells are part of the internal systems. Their condition depends on the balancers, and not on Kyivvodokanal.
The company noted that the drainage system in Troyeschyna, as in all of Kyiv, operates stably, ensuring uninterrupted wastewater drainage even during power outages. So far, no cases of partial or complete pipe freezing have been recorded.
Kyivvodokanal also emphasized that the idea of creating street toilets or cesspools is economically unfounded and lacks a basis. They urged residents to trust only official information and avoid panic, assuring them that they constantly monitor network operations and provide up-to-date information.
