Even for 50 hryvnias: mass blocking of accounts due to card replenishment

If you plan to deposit cash into your bank account, be prepared to provide proof of the origin of the funds. The absence of supporting documents may lead to the suspension of the operation or even the refusal to transfer funds. This applies to both large and relatively small amounts, noted financial planner Larisa Moshkovska in a comment.

Under current financial monitoring regulations, customers cannot safely deposit large amounts of cash into an account without explaining the source of the funds. The established threshold for mandatory inspection is 400,000 hryvnias. Depositing such an amount without documents confirming the legitimacy of the income is almost certain to result in a block, the expert noted.

However, banks monitor not only large sums — each transaction is analyzed individually, taking into account the client’s financial history and profile. The financial institution has the right to request supporting documents, temporarily suspend the deposit, reject payments, or freeze the amount until the verification is completed.

An important aspect for the bank is the transparency of the source of income. If the account receives regular official payments – salary, fees, dividends, or other declared income – then even a significant replenishment will not cause additional requests.

However, there is a problem for new accounts or those that have been rarely used before. Depositing even 50-100 thousand hryvnias in such a case can attract the attention of financial monitoring and prompt a request for explanations and documents confirming the funds’ legitimacy. Experts recommend preparing contracts, income certificates, and other financial documents in advance to avoid delays and possible blockages.
