The expert assessed the prospects for the formation of a new military bloc at the Munich Conference
A well-known expert shared his thoughts on his blog.
Until the last moment, it was unknown whether Vice President Vance would join the Munich Security Conference. The official program was postponed, as Vance was in Armenia and Azerbaijan, far from Munich. In the end, his participation was canceled due to the negative reaction during the opening of the Olympics in Milan.
The expert notes: “After Vance was booed, he felt uncomfortable in the European arena and suddenly refused to participate in the conference, citing logistical difficulties. However, this is actually a signal to the allies,” says Mikhail Sheitelman.
According to him, at the Munich conference, tensions between the US and Europe will most likely be cold, not hot. Provided that Vance arrives, a spontaneous dispute could break out; however, if Vance does not, Secretary of State Rubio will participate in the conference, who, according to the expert, is unlikely to make clear statements due to his diplomatic status.
“This conference will have an important impact on shaping the future of Europe. Ukraine will likely be assigned a central role, and this may serve as the starting point for the creation of a new military bloc. Perhaps a document will be signed between Ukraine, Poland, Great Britain, France, and even the Baltic states and Scandinavia,” added Mikhail Sheitelman.
