Solar plants will not solve the problem: when will the power outages decrease

The same situation has been observed in Ukraine for 4 years: Russian attacks lead to power and heating shortages. However, soon the winter hours will end, and spring can change the energy situation. Expert Serhii Makogon spoke about this in an interview with “The Telegraph”.

Makogon noted: “For the past four years, we have had constant attacks, as a result of which access to electricity and heat has been reduced. But with the arrival of spring, the opportunities to improve the energy supply situation are increasing.”

The expert believes that as summer approaches, power outages in Ukraine may decrease, although a complete cancellation of schedules is not expected at the moment. “The summer months will give us more electricity from solar power plants, so the probability of blackouts will decrease. However, it is worth considering that nuclear power units will also be subject to repair so that the blackout schedules will remain relevant for some time,” he said.

With longer daylight hours and longer solar hours, electricity production at solar installations in Ukraine will increase significantly, helping reduce the energy deficit and shorten disconnection queues.

Makogon stressed that improvements to the power system are particularly noticeable during the daytime, when increased solar energy production will reduce the deficit and potentially prevent a series of blackouts if there is no significant damage to the infrastructure. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that outage schedules will remain dependent on the overall balance between generation, consumption, and potential attacks.

The expert also noted that the risk of power outages remains highest during peak hours, usually from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., when demand for electricity increases and solar energy production decreases.
