Klitschko announces discussion of Kyiv’s energy sustainability plan at Kyiv City Council

Kyiv, like many other cities in Ukraine, is facing serious challenges due to Russian aggression. One of the biggest threats to the capital has been the shelling of critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, which has caused regular power and water outages.

In the face of these difficulties, an energy resilience plan for Kyiv was developed to ensure the city maintains a stable energy supply even amid ongoing attacks. This document is important because such plans are usually created only at the regional level, but an individual approach is needed for the capital.

The mayor of the capital emphasized that the plan takes into account the realities of war and that its implementation will be critical to supporting Kyiv’s vital activity. However, under the law, the mayor does not have the authority to make such decisions independently, so the plan requires approval by the Kyiv City Council.

In addition, it was noted that the city currently does not receive adequate state support in the energy sector, which necessitated adapting the energy resilience plan to conditions in which Kyiv is forced to act mainly independently.

The document includes measures to strengthen the city’s energy infrastructure, develop new energy sources, and improve cooperation among city services to eliminate the consequences of shelling and accidents promptly.

The mayor expressed gratitude to all services that worked to support the capital this winter, in particular, energy workers, utilities, employees of the State Emergency Service, and air defense forces, who tirelessly provided the necessary services for Kyiv. The resilience and endurance of Kyiv residents in these difficult times were also noted.

Additionally, suspicion is reported against a doctor in Kyiv due to the death of a patient who died of acute myocardial infarction after an untimely diagnosis and improper medical care.
