Illegal quarry in Bukovina: three brothers will be brought to trial

Prosecutors have filed an indictment against three people from the Chernivtsi region who were involved in illegal mining and resisting the police.

In the Chernivtsi region, the court has heard the case of three brothers who were involved in illegal sand and gravel mining and caused problems for law enforcement officers. The Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this.

According to the investigation, the men organized illegal gravel mining without the required permits, in violation of current legislation.

During the police actions, the defendants behaved aggressively, threatening law enforcement officers and trying to prevent their intervention. One of them pushed a police officer away to mislead him and allow the truck to escape.

The indictment has already been sent to court, and the defendants in the case have been charged with illegal mining and resisting law enforcement officers.

In addition, prosecutors from the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office have announced suspicion against the director of the zeolite plant, who, according to the investigation, organized the illegal mining of minerals worth more than 11 million hryvnias.

Law enforcement officers indicate that during the period from 2022 to 2025, the 56-year-old head of the enterprise organized mining without a special permit. This concerns work on the territory of the only zeolite deposit in Ukraine, located in Transcarpathia and considered one of the largest in Europe.

As a result of illegal activities, about 8,890 tons of minerals were mined, which caused losses to the state of more than 11 million hryvnias.
