Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Suspected of Forcing Military to Perform Repairs

Law enforcement officers discovered that an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine organized a scheme to involve soldiers in construction work instead of their direct duties.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that this person has already been suspected under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Together with the Department of Internal Security of the National Police and the Military Law and Order Service, the State Bureau of Investigation exposed the commander of a unit for illegal actions.

The investigation found that since September 2024, this official has been involved in at least 7 service members in carrying out repair and construction work in private homes. The work was carried out not on military territories, but in the apartments and houses of his relatives, as well as in real estate owned by the commander himself.

The auxiliary work included repairs to the apartments of the officer’s daughter and ex-wife in Cherkasy, to his sister’s house, and to an apartment in the Kyiv region.

To disguise his activities, the commander informed his superiors that his subordinates were on duty and performing their duties. At the same time, they were engaged in private repairs. Moreover, even a playground intended for the children of service members was installed on the officer’s property.

Despite being absent from duty, the service members continued to receive their salaries in full.

At the moment, the commander has been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, in particular, for abuse of power and for organizing evasion of military service by a group of persons in conspiracy.

The service members who participated in the repair work were also suspected of evasion of service under martial law.

Sanctions for committed offenses may include imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The Central Region Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office is responsible for the procedural management.
