Poachers with a huge catch detained in Cherkasy region

During another raid, inspectors, together with the water police, discovered poachers who did not use traditional fishing rods, but decided to steal everything they could from the water, using prohibited nets. As a result of such greed, the state was damaged by more than a million hryvnias. Next, we will consider what kind of fish the criminals managed to catch and what consequences they face.

Impressive losses from poaching

The incident occurred on March 23. When the inspectors of the Central District, together with patrol officers, stopped two men, they were shocked by the scale of the violation. The poachers acted indiscriminately, causing enormous damage to water resources.

The violators’ nets included:

400 crucian carp – a record number of catches;

53 bream and 15 large carp;

9 pike, as well as one silver bream, white bream and blue bream each.
According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused to the state is 1 million 301 thousand hryvnias. Such a high bill is explained by significant fines for each illegally caught fish, especially on the eve of spawning.

The situation is turning into a criminal matter

Due to the huge losses, simple administrative liability is not enough here. An investigative group was immediately called to the scene to document each case in detail.

Currently, law enforcement officers are establishing all the details of the case. Poachers face not only confiscation of the boat and fishing gear, but also criminal liability. The law provides for strict penalties for such offenses, since such an attitude towards nature harms the ecosystem of the region for many years.

The State Ecological Inspectorate once again emphasizes: fishing rules were created not to violate, but to preserve fish in our water bodies. It is worth being especially careful in the territories of reserves, where security is tightened.
