Women’s mobilization is a myth: the Armed Forces explained why some women accidentally ended up in “Oberig”
The Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have officially simplified the information about the possible mobilization of women, which is actively spreading in the Ukrainian media and social networks. They emphasize that the law remains unchanged and women can serve only on a voluntary basis. However, there is a serious problem related to a technical failure in the “Oberig” system, as a result of which some women without medical training were mistakenly entered into the military register, and it is currently impossible to correct this situation.
Recently, there have been many rumors in the information field about the alleged mass mobilization of women in Ukraine. The ground forces characterized this information as “baseless” and “manipulative”, noting that it is used to undermine mobilization processes and discredit the Armed Forces.
Officially, no changes to the legislation were made. Women can join the ranks of the Armed Forces exclusively on a voluntary basis, and only citizens with a medical or pharmaceutical education are required to pass military registration.
Among the technical problems that arose, after the discovery of the first case where a woman without appropriate education was registered in the military, the Ground Forces Command conducted an investigation. It was established that erroneous data was entered into the Oberig system as early as 2021, and further analysis revealed similar situations.
In addition, the problem is complicated by the fact that it is currently impossible to correct these errors in the “Oberig” system, since there is no possibility to delete information about persons who are not conscripts or military servicemen. The command sent requests to the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense with proposals for eliminating these shortcomings.
At the legislative level, they are also trying to solve this situation: on March 30, the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 15116, which aims to simplify the procedure for correcting erroneous entries in the register without the need for lengthy lawsuits.
If you find incorrect information about yourself in the “Oberig” system, it is recommended to contact the hotline of the Ground Forces at 0 800 301 937.
