Росія використовує новий вид мін: що таке "пряники" і чому вони небезпечні для України

Russia is using a new type of mine: what are “gingerbread” mines and why are they dangerous for Ukraine

New Russian anti-personnel mines of remote detonation, which have received the names “gingerbread” or “bun”, pose a serious threat to the civilian population of Ukraine. These mines are difficult to detect, even using special technologies, which makes their hidden danger even more relevant.

The head of the Nikopol RDA Ivan Bazyluk spoke about the situation in his Telegram channel. The enemy uses drones to scatter mines, and this creates unpredictable threats to people.

To date, mines have been discovered in Sumy region, Nikopol district, on the island of Khortytsia in Zaporizhia and in Kherson. Usually they are dropped from drones onto soft surfaces, such as grass or soil, to make them harder to recognize. In the regions where these mines have been discovered, a danger has already been declared.

The authorities urge residents to be as careful as possible: not to visit dangerous areas, adhere to proven routes and avoid contact with suspicious objects. Although the first mentions of these mines appeared in the fall of 2025, their use has become more widespread now.

What distinguishes a “gingerbread” from a “petal”?

A “gingerbread” mine has a compact plastic body with a diameter of 5-6 cm, which resembles a washer or a lid from a can. Due to its design, it can easily be camouflaged in grass, soil or among garbage. One careless press is enough to cause a detonation, which can lead to serious injuries.

It is much smaller than “petal” mines, and, thanks to its plastic body, it easily bypasses metal detectors, which makes it even more dangerous.

What to do if you find a mine?

If you spot a suspicious object, follow these safety rules: stay away from it, do not touch it and immediately report the find to the rescuers or the police by calling 101 or 102.

Your safe life is the most important thing. Following simple safety rules can save you and your loved ones.
