Why did the Easter cake “fall” or crack? 8 common mistakes in Easter baking and how to overcome them

Baking Easter Easter cakes is not just about mood or magic. It is a process that requires precision and some stubbornness. If you deviate from the rules somewhere, the butter dough will immediately show it.

Here are the main reasons why many people fail when baking Easter Easter cakes, as well as tips on how to avoid mistakes.

Checking the yeast
Before preparing the dough, it is important to check whether your yeast is active. To do this, mix it with warm milk, sugar and a little flour. If after 10-15 minutes a foamy “cap” appears, the yeast is fine. If not, it is better to replace it.

The trick with flour
One of the most common mistakes is using too much flour when you are trying to overcome the stickiness of the dough. This can lead to the fact that the Easter cake will be too dense and dry. Add the flour gradually and sift it preferably. To prevent the dough from sticking, grease your hands with oil.

Kneading test
To obtain a fluffy dough, you need to actively knead it for at least 15–20 minutes, until it becomes smooth and begins to lag behind the walls of the bowl.

Conditions for rising the dough
The dough does not like cold air. The best place for rising is a warm, turned-off oven or a corner without drafts. The dough should double in size – only then can you roll it out.

Baking time
Do not put the Easter cake in the oven until it has risen to about ¾ of the height of the mold. If you rush, this can lead to cracks in the dough.

Open oven door
Do not open the oven for the first 20–30 minutes. This will help prevent the Easter cake from settling unnecessarily. Even if the top burns, it is better to be patient, and the glaze will then hide all the beauty.

Checking for doneness
Since all ovens are different, using a timer is not always reliable. The best way to check for doneness is to insert a wooden skewer. If it comes out dry, your Easter cake is ready.

Cooling
A hot Easter cake can lose its shape if you simply place it upright. It is recommended to lay the Easter cake on its side and carefully turn it over on a soft surface until it has cooled completely.

So, to summarize
If your Easter cake “fell” after baking, most likely it was not baked enough on the inside. Always check for doneness yourself – following the baking technology and paying attention to detail can ensure baking success.
