“You don’t belong here”: Mom with a wheelchair was not allowed to go to school

An incident occurred at a Kyiv school that caused outrage on social media. A young mother who came to pick up her son was unable to enter with a stroller. This situation was covered on her page in Threads by a resident of the capital, Anna, who goes by the nickname zhdanya_hovoryt.

The woman reported that the security guard forced her to leave the stroller on the street, taking the baby in her arms, and added: “You don’t belong here.”

And after this incident, Ms. Anna called the hotline for citizens’ appeals, but the answer caused her even more dissatisfaction. There she was explained that the school adheres to sanitary and hygienic standards, and the mother violates them by entering with a stroller.

“At 15-51 they told me: the school adheres to sanitary and hygienic standards. And it turns out that I violate them by entering the school hall with a wheelchair. I will wait until they force me to take off my shoes before entering and they will not let me in a wheelchair,” she noted.

Hanna also emphasized that her eldest son is still very small and needs help getting dressed after the club.

“For those who are worried that the child does not know how to dress himself: he still goes to kindergarten, and I help him get dressed! He is not a schoolboy! There are clubs in schools that are attended by not only schoolchildren!”

Many social network users supported the woman and expressed indignation at such an attitude towards parents and children. They noted that entering the hospital with a wheelchair is normal, so why can’t you go to school? Many people emphasized that the problem is not only in the rules, but also in the lack of humanity.

“And if a mother with a stroller needs to go to the emergency room? You should write a complaint in the electronic office of the government portal. Describe the situation with the school, indicate the date of the call to the hotline. Ask to resolve the issue of inclusion of the low-mobility group,” advised one user.

“What other sanitary regulations? You can go to the hospital, but not to school. How terrible they treat mothers,” noted another.
